The floor figures are exact; the mid career figure is indicative, because MOM applies a sliding scale by age rather than a published figure for each year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the practical reading for an older applicant is not that you are barred. It is that a role paying SGD 3,400 will clear the bar for a graduate and will not clear it for you. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mom.gov.sg\/passes-and-permits\/s-pass\/eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MOM publishes the sliding scale<\/a>, and it is worth checking your own age against it before you negotiate rather than after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One more piece of timing. For renewals, the current rate applies to any pass expiring <strong>on or after 1 September 2026<\/strong>, so a renewal is assessed against today&#8217;s floor and today&#8217;s age, not the ones that applied when the pass was first granted. People are caught by that: a pass granted at 38 comes up for renewal at 41 against a higher bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_increase_coming_in_2027\"><\/span><strong>The increase coming in 2027<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The floor is going up, and it is worth planning around:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th><\/th><th>Now<\/th><th>From 1 January 2027<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>General sectors<\/td><td>SGD 3,300<\/td><td><strong>SGD 3,600<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Financial services<\/td><td>SGD 3,800<\/td><td><strong>SGD 4,000<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>Announced increases to the S Pass minimum qualifying salary. New applications from 1 January 2027; renewals of passes expiring from 1 January 2028.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are close to the current floor, that is a reason to move sooner rather than later, and a reason to ask an employer whether the salary they are offering clears the 2027 figure as well as today&#8217;s. A pass granted this year still has to survive a renewal under the new number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_limit_that_stops_more_people_than_age_does\"><\/span><strong>The limit that stops more people than age does<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your age will rarely be what refuses you. Your employer&#8217;s quota often will. A small firm may have no S Pass slot at all.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arithmetic is unforgiving for small employers. A services company needs nine local employees before a single S Pass slot exists. On top of the quota the employer pays a monthly levy of <strong>SGD 650<\/strong> per S Pass holder, which is a real cost they are weighing against hiring locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why the useful question to ask a prospective employer is not whether they will sponsor you, but whether they currently have a slot and have budgeted the levy. Plenty of willing employers cannot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_there_a_minimum_age\"><\/span><strong>Is there a minimum age?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not formally, but effectively yes. The S Pass is for mid level skilled staff and expects a degree or diploma plus relevant experience, which most people do not hold before their early twenties. This is a yes or no answer and it decides everything.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the offer against the 2027 figure too, not just today&#8217;s, so your first renewal is not your last.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your salary clears a much higher bar, ask whether you should be on an Employment Pass instead.
