More in our guide to the 2026 thresholds.

Benefits of Working in a Critical Skills Occupation

Working in a critical skills occupation in Ireland comes with a number of benefits. For one, foreign workers in these occupations are eligible for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which allows them to work and reside in Ireland for up to two years. This permit can be extended for an additional three years, and after five years of living and working in Ireland, permit holders may be eligible to apply for long-term residency.

In addition, critical skills workers in Ireland are subject to higher salary thresholds than other workers. This means that they may be able to earn more money than they would in a non-critical skills occupation. Finally, critical skills workers may also benefit from faster visa processing times, which can help them get settled in Ireland more quickly.

While working in a critical skills occupation in Ireland can offer many benefits, it’s important to note that there are also other job opportunities available in the country. Job seekers who are interested in finding work outside of the Ireland Critical Skills Occupation List can explore job search websites such as Indeed.ie, Jobs.ie, and LinkedIn. They can also network with professionals in their field and attend job fairs and other industry events.

It’s worth noting that while not all jobs in Ireland require a Critical Skills Employment Permit, some jobs may require other types of work permits or visas. It’s important to check with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service to determine which permits or visas may be necessary for your specific situation.

In conclusion, the Ireland Critical Skills List is a valuable resource for job seekers who are looking for employment opportunities in Ireland. By understanding which occupations are in high demand in Ireland, job seekers can better position themselves to find work in their field. We have provided an overview of the list and highlighted the benefits of working in a critical skills occupation in Ireland, including eligibility for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, higher salary thresholds, and faster visa processing times. However, it’s important to note that there are also other job opportunities available in Ireland. We encourage job seekers to explore the Ireland Critical Skills List and other resources to find the right job opportunity for them.

More on working in Ireland

How to apply for a Critical Skills Employment Permit in Ireland

11 countries offering Seasonal Work visas in Europe

Rules are only half the problem.
