It did not replace the MLTSSL or STSOL, which still exist for other purposes, so you may find your occupation on one list and not another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sits under the <strong>Skills in Demand<\/strong> visa, which replaced the TSS 482 with a three-tiered structure based on annual earnings and occupation. For most people that means the core stream, and the core stream means the income threshold below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_two_numbers_for_employer_sponsorship\"><\/span><strong>The two numbers for employer sponsorship<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th><\/th><th>Amount<\/th><th>Note<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Core Skills Income Threshold<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>AUD 79,423<\/strong><\/td><td>From 1 July 2026, up from AUD 76,515. It is routinely left out of comparisons. What invitations actually required in the 2025-26 programme year is a different matter entirely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Occupation group<\/th><th>Points that received an invitation<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Trades: stonemason, wall and floor tiler, carpenter, plasterer, gasfitter, glazier<\/td><td><strong>65<\/strong>, the published minimum<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Healthcare<\/td><td><strong>75 to 80<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Engineering<\/td><td><strong>85 to 90<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>ICT<\/td><td><strong>90 to 95<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>Observed subclass 189 invitation cutoffs, 2025-26. Thirty points separates a carpenter from a software engineer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thirty points is not a margin, it is a different application. It is the difference between qualifying on age, English and experience alone, and needing a doctorate, superior English, a partner with a skills assessment and state nomination on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the honest advice splits. <strong>If you are a tradesperson, Australia is the best offer available anywhere<\/strong> and you should treat the 189 as your primary plan. <strong>If you are in ICT, the published 65 is actively misleading<\/strong> and you should either target state nomination or look at Canada instead. A state nomination on a <strong>subclass 190<\/strong> adds five points, and a regional <strong>subclass 491<\/strong> adds fifteen. For an ICT applicant facing a 90-point bar, fifteen points from a regional commitment is the difference between applying and not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trade-off is that you agree to live somewhere specific, usually outside the big cities, for a defined period. That should be a decision rather than a discovery. Anything below counts as a shortage, and the numbers are more specific than any list of occupation names:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Internal audit: around 40 per cent.<\/strong> The deepest professional shortage in the data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>General accountant and external audit: around 49 per cent.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Taxation accountant: around 55 per cent.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Finance managers: assessed as about right.<\/strong> Not a shortage, and the shortage argument is not available to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is how to read Australian policy generally. Being on the Core Skills Occupation List makes you eligible. Being in a genuinely unfilled occupation makes you wanted, and the two are different things. More in <a href=\"https:\/\/shortagejobs.com\/blog\/accountant-jobs-abroad-2026\/\">accountant jobs abroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_do\"><\/span><strong>What to do<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find your ANZSCO occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List.<\/strong> Everything is decided by the code, not the job title.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Look up what your occupation group actually cleared<\/strong>, not the published 65.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Start the skills assessment.<\/strong> It is run by an assessing authority for your occupation, separately from immigration, and it is usually the slowest step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sort out state licensing<\/strong> if your trade or profession is licensed.
