Still running:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>SSW (ii) food service<\/strong> test.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Food and beverage manufacturing<\/strong> at both tiers, which is where much kitchen and production experience fits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accommodation<\/strong>, and the other operational fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three further fields, <strong>linen supply, logistics warehouse and resource circulation<\/strong>, have tests in preparation, expected around 2027. They are announced rather than open, so there is nothing to sit yet. Full field list in <a href=\"https:\/\/shortagejobs.com\/blog\/japans-specified-skilled-worker-visa-a-complete-guide\/\">our Specified Skilled Worker guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Where_the_tests_are_held\"><\/span><strong>Where the tests are held<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skills tests run in <strong>Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Pakistan<\/strong>, with additional countries for particular sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your country is on that list, you can qualify entirely from home and arrive already eligible, which is the structural advantage this route has over most of the world&#8217;s. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prometric-jp.com\/en\/ssw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prometric administers the tests<\/a> and publishes the schedules, though several sectors run through their own bodies: construction through JAC, industrial product manufacturing through JAIM, food services through OTAFF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schedules are per-sector and irregular rather than monthly, so plan backwards from a sitting. Examples from 2026 give the flavour: aquaculture ran from 16 April 2026 to 28 February 2027, fishing from 16 April to 30 June 2026, and manufacturing sat on 25 to 28 November 2026 with a further session expected around February 2027. Check your own sector rather than assuming a pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Japanese_test_which_is_the_easier_half_to_plan\"><\/span><strong>The Japanese test, which is the easier half to plan<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need Japanese at either <strong>JFT-Basic<\/strong> or <strong>JLPT N4<\/strong>. JFT-Basic is usually the better choice for this purpose because it runs far more often:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th><\/th><th>JFT-Basic<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>How often<\/td><td><strong>Six times a year<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Where, in Japan<\/td><td>120 cities across all 47 prefectures<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Level needed<\/td><td><strong>A2 or higher<\/strong> for Specified Skilled Worker applicants<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Booking deadline<\/td><td>Until <strong>23:59 Japan time three business days<\/strong> before the test, or four where the test falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Japanese public holiday<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>The Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese, the language half of the requirement.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most people A2 is six months to a year of steady study. It is the single requirement standing between an experienced worker with no degree and a status that, at SSW (ii), renews indefinitely and permits family. On that arithmetic it is the best-value language study in global immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_register\"><\/span><strong>How to register<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The process is the same shape for both tests and it is worth doing carefully, because one detail causes most of the problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Create a candidate account<\/strong> on the official site for your country. You need a working email address, your date of birth, and in some countries your passport number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your passport.<\/strong> This is the detail that causes trouble: a mismatch between your test certificate and your passport is a problem you will be untangling at the visa stage, not at the test centre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Log in with your Prometric ID<\/strong> and choose your test date, venue and start time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pay the fee<\/strong> to confirm the reservation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Note the change deadline<\/strong>, which is 23:59 Japan time three business days before the test, or four for weekend and public holiday sittings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpf.go.jp\/jft-basic\/e\/schedule\/flow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The JFT-Basic registration process is set out here<\/a>. Take the passport-name point seriously: it is free to get right now and expensive to fix later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_do\"><\/span><strong>What to do<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Confirm your field is open<\/strong> and not capped or suspended.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check whether tests run in your country.<\/strong> If they do, this route is available to you on merit alone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Find the next sitting for your sector<\/strong> and work backwards from it. Schedules are irregular.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Book JFT-Basic early<\/strong> and aim at A2.
