If you are in the third, you can start this afternoon without knowing a single employer&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_a_sponsor_licence_is\"><\/span><strong>What a sponsor licence is<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the countries with the strictest systems, an employer cannot sponsor anyone unless the government has licensed them to. This is checkable, and checking it is the most useful ten minutes you will spend on any job offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK publishes its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/register-of-licensed-sponsors-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">register of licensed sponsors<\/a> as a downloadable list. If a company is not on it, they cannot sponsor you, whatever they have told you. Other countries handle it differently: Denmark certifies employers for its fast track scheme, and Japan requires a registered accepting organisation. The principle is the same everywhere. The right to sponsor belongs to the employer and is granted by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_sponsorship_does_not_mean\"><\/span><strong>What sponsorship does not mean<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where expectations and reality part company, and it is worth being blunt about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It does not mean they pay your costs.<\/strong> Your visa fee, your health surcharge, your flights and your proof of funds are usually yours. Some employers cover some of it. None are obliged to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It does not mean you are approved.<\/strong> Sponsorship gets your application considered. You still have to meet the salary threshold, the skill level, the language requirement and the character checks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It does not free you to change jobs.<\/strong> On most sponsored routes your permission is tied to that employer, and moving means a new application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It does not replace a professional licence.<\/strong> A sponsored nurse still needs to register with the nursing regulator; a sponsored electrician still needs their qualification recognised. That process is separate, runs on its own timetable, and is usually the longest part of the whole thing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_one_rule_that_will_protect_you\"><\/span><strong>The one rule that will protect you<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In every legitimate route, the employer pays the sponsorship costs.<\/strong> A UK certificate of sponsorship costs the employer money. A French employer files and pays. A Japanese accepting organisation carries the obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if someone asks <strong>you<\/strong> to pay for a job offer, a sponsorship certificate, or a guaranteed placement, that is not a service with an unusual fee structure. That is the shape of the fraud. It is most common in care work, agriculture and driving, which are exactly the fields where people are most willing to pay to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recruitment agencies can be entirely legitimate, and many are. The test is who pays them. An agency paid by the employer is doing a normal job. An agency asking you for four figures to secure an offer is selling you something it does not have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_tell_which_situation_you_are_in\"><\/span><strong>How to tell which situation you are in<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find your occupation code<\/strong> in the destination country&#8217;s classification. Everything is decided by the code, not by your job title, and this surprises almost everyone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check whether that code is on a shortage list.<\/strong> If it is, you have skipped the step that fails most often.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check the salary floor<\/strong>, which is usually the higher of a national threshold and a per-occupation going rate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check whether the employer is licensed<\/strong>, where the country publishes a register.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Start any professional registration now<\/strong>, in parallel.
