That is a good use and it is the smaller one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Used the other way round it is the best prospect list in British recruitment. Download it, filter to your sector and region, and <strong>apply to those companies directly whether or not they are advertising<\/strong>. You are approaching employers who have already obtained a licence, already done the paperwork once, and already decided in principle that sponsoring is worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is a completely different conversation from persuading an employer to start. We keep a working copy at <a href=\"https:\/\/shortagejobs.com\/registered-uk-visa-sponsors\">registered UK visa sponsors<\/a> if you would rather not wrangle a government spreadsheet, and the same approach works in the Netherlands, which publishes its own register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The defensive use still matters.<\/strong> If a company is not on the register, they cannot sponsor you, whatever they have told you and whatever paperwork they have shown you. That check takes under a minute and it eliminates every fake offer at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_question_that_matters_more_can_the_job_be_sponsored\"><\/span><strong>The question that matters more: can the job be sponsored?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A licensed sponsor can only sponsor an <strong>eligible role<\/strong>, and since <strong>22 July 2025<\/strong> the Skilled Worker route has required <strong>RQF 6<\/strong>, degree level. That single change removed around 180 occupations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exception is the interim <strong>Temporary Shortage List<\/strong>, which keeps roughly 50 occupation codes at RQF 3 to 5 eligible, covering construction trades, engineering, IT technicians, automotive work, logistics, agriculture and some finance and business support roles. It is scheduled to expire on <strong>31 December 2026<\/strong> unless extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So ask the employer for the <strong>occupation code<\/strong> in writing, and check it yourself in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/immigration-rules\/immigration-rules-appendix-skilled-occupations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Appendix Skilled Occupations<\/a>. Two sectors are worth ruling out before you spend time on them: <strong>hospitality<\/strong> is outside the list entirely, and <strong>care worker<\/strong> roles closed to new overseas applicants on 22 July 2025, with in-country switching running to 22 July 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_salary_trap\"><\/span><strong>The salary trap<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The headline figures are <strong>GBP 41,700<\/strong> on the general route and <strong>GBP 33,400<\/strong> on the Temporary Shortage List. Neither is necessarily your number, because the rule is the <strong>higher<\/strong> of the threshold and the going rate for your specific occupation code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Figure<\/th><th>Amount<\/th><th>Applies?<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>National TSL threshold<\/td><td>GBP 33,400<\/td><td>Only if it is the higher of the two<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Going rate for SOC 5231, vehicle technicians<\/td><td><strong>GBP 35,500<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Yes.<\/strong> It is higher, so it binds<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>A worked example. An offer at GBP 34,000 clears the national threshold and fails the application.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look up the going rate for the code before you negotiate, not after. It is the single most useful check available on this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Two_changes_that_catch_applicants\"><\/span><strong>Two changes that catch applicants<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"English_rose_to_B2_in_January\"><\/span><strong>English rose to B2 in January<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For applications made on or after <strong>8 January 2026<\/strong>, the requirement is <strong>CEFR B2<\/strong> in reading, writing, speaking and listening, up from B1. If you already held the visa before that date, B1 still applies when you extend, so do not buy a test you do not need. Separately, the English requirement for <strong>settlement<\/strong> rises from B1 to B2 on 26 March 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_surcharge_is_the_real_cost\"><\/span><strong>The surcharge is the real cost<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The immigration health surcharge is <strong>GBP 1,035 per person per year<\/strong>, payable up front for the whole visa. A family of four on a five-year visa pays <strong>GBP 20,700<\/strong> before any application fee. It is the largest single cost in UK immigration and the one people discover last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One exemption, and it is large. The <a href=\"https:\/\/shortagejobs.com\/blog\/health-and-care-visa-vs-skilled-worker-visa\/\">Health and Care Worker visa<\/a> is <strong>exempt entirely<\/strong>, dependants included, and has a lower salary floor. For clinical staff that single distinction is worth more than every other saving on this page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_do\"><\/span><strong>What to do<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Download the register<\/strong> and filter it to your sector and region.
